Student Week Fall 2017 was kicked off on Monday, November 06, 2017 at CIIT Sahiwal. Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director COMSATS Sahiwal was the Chief Guest. The said ceremony was attended by Dr. Zahiruddin Shaikh, Director Student Affairs, all HoDs, faculty/Officers/ staff members, large number of students and media representatives.

The ceremony was started with recitation from the holy Quran. Dr. Zahiruddin Shaikh welcomed the Chief Guest and briefed about student week activities. After which, the student week was kicked off with cutting of ribbon, fly of pigeons by Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat along-with head of departments. During ceremony, tug of war competition among departmental faculty members was held whereas, the cricket, hockey and football competitions were also kicked off.

Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director COMSATS Sahiwal addressed to the participants. He emphasized that extra-curricular activities play pivotal role in physical and mental growth. He shared that we believe in arranging co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for our students to provide them leisure hours and to engage them for their learning. The objective of Student Week is to engage students in healthy activities which are important for their grooming and personality development. Instead of taking this week as holidays, the students must participate in different activities with full enthusiasm. He advised and encouraged all students for their maximum participation.

He further shared that it’s not a matter of one week only, it’s a matter of whole semester as several events/ activities are arranged on regular basis during whole semester.

After inaugural session, several activities/ events were arranged under the flagship of Event Management Society, Music Club, Literary Society, Dramatic Society, Calligraphy and Fine Arts Society, Science Club, ASHRAE, Adventure Club, Health Society, Sport Club, and Media Society.

During whole week, several activities were arranged by different societies, committees and clubs as detailed below:

Dramatic Club arranged script writing, videography, skits, free acting, memes and inter-departmental drama competition with objective to indoctrinate the positive cultural heritage in addition to promote extracurricular educational messages.

Literary Society is playing active role with its objective to keep the candle of literature alight and cultivate healthy and thought provoking mindsets in students. Several events were arranged by this society which includes Qiraat & Naat competition, PNA sessions, Declamation competition, creative writing competition, Public speaking, Parliamentary debates, Mushaira. Large number of students participated in these events whereas; the presence of audience was also awesome.

Sports Committee remained very active with objective to encourage maximum students’ participation in sports activities. This committee arranged Cricket (Males & Females), Football, Hockey, Volley ball, Basket ball, Table Tennis (Males and Females), Badminton (Males and Females), Air-Rifle Shooting, Kabaddi, Athletics and Tug of War, and Lawn Tennis competitions among departmental teams. The sports ground remained colorful due to large number of players and their supporters during whole student week.

Event Management club provided logistic support to all committees/ societies and clubs for successful arrangement of their planned activities during whole student week. Efforts were made to engage maximum number of students to grooms and train them to plan, manage and execute events at various levels.

Adventure and Rovering Club arranged scavenger hunt, adventure games, water balls, traffic awareness campaign and camping. The objective was to train students to go robust and survive in tough situation in addition to enjoy nature and keeping fit. Large number of male and female students participated in different activities arranged by this club.

Health Awareness and Blood Donor Society arranged registration desks for its other activities that were supposed to be organized in coming days of Student’s Week such as Hurdle Race, Blood Database Development. More than 250 new students got entries in existing Blood donor database and more than 80 students got registered for Hurdle Race. On 2nd day, the society arranged some healthy competitions i.e. hurdle Race. Large number of students actively participated in these competitions. The students showed their full passion and enthusiasm to prove their energy. Prof. Dr. Saleem Shaukat, Director CIIT Sahiwal and Dr. Zahiruddin Shaikh visited these games.

Food is considered beneficial to human health and a balanced diet is required for good health. We must always pay attention to the foods we eat because it will eventually impact our health. To discuss diet and age issues, COMSATS Health Awareness Society has organized a seminar which was conducted by the Deputy Director, Punjab Food Authority. The objective of that seminar was to raise awareness about relationship of diet with age. The said seminar was attended by large number of students and faculty members.

Media & Publicity Committee is playing vibrant role for keeping community informed of the progress and activities of the institution through print and electronic media, press and public relationing. Many students have been engaged to do photography of student week activities. The Media Committee invited media officials to cover different activities of student week. Sardar Asad Ali Khan Baluch, Mayor Sahiwal and renowned TV Anchor, Mr. Riaz Khan were also engaged in different events. This committee managed coverage of student week activities in leading newspapers which include Nawa i Waqt, Khabrain, Pakistan, Express, Jinnah and many more. Moreover, aggressive campaign was launched to promote student week activities on social media and campus website. Events were created on Facebook with objective to convey message to maximum audience. Press releases were prepared and then shared with electronic and print media.

Calligraphy and Fine Arts Society arranged arts exhibition where, art work of students was placed. The objective of this activity was to train students in creative arts and to involve them healthy activity of calligraphy.

Music Club arranged folk singing, solo singing, Faculty and students Antakshari, Inter college music competition. This is first time that heads of educational institutions in Sahiwal and suburbs were invited to send their students to participate in different events organized by the COMSATS Music Club. More than twenty (20) students of different institutions participated in Inter College / Institution singing completion. Several representatives of educational institutions also visited our campus during Student Week. They were welcomed by the Conveners of different Societies/ Clubs. The main objective of these activities was to find and trains students in music and arrange events to bring colors in the campus. Renowned TV anchor Mr. Riaz Khan was the chief guest of the Grand Finale of Inter College/ institution singing competition which was held on November 09, 2017 i.e. Iqbal day which was observed by recalling Kalama-e-Iqbal, national songs and sufiana kalaam. Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director COMSATS Sahiwal and Mr. Riaz Khan paid tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

The Reading and Science Club always try to instill the book reading culture in students. Efforts were made to involve students in book reading. For the purpose, Oxford University Press was invited to put up a book exhibition for two days on November 6 to 7, 2017 at the campus. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Director CIIT Sahiwal Professor Dr. Farooq Saleem Qureshi. He also invited the whole faculty to make a choice of books related to their respective departments for the purchase by the library department. The exhibition was visited by large number of students and the faculty who took keen interest in the purchase of literary and scientific books. Moreover, the Science club students also carried out competitions in E-gaming on Wednesday and Thursday. A mass student activity was also held on Thursday with the name of MIND FREEZE and 15 teams participated in this activity. It was full of suspense, analytics and hunting.

November 10, 2017 was the closing day of student week. The mega event which was arranged on closing day was Cultural Day. It was a full day activity which includes Lok Virsa Day, Bangles competition, Bhangra, Tappay, Best Dressed Male and Female, Pagri Bandhna, and many more. Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director CIIT Sahiwal alongwith all Head of departments, large number of faculty, officers, staff and students participated in this event. Moreover, prize distribution ceremony was also arranged on the same day. All students/teams who took first positions in different events/ competitions were awarded with shields, whereas those who were runner up shall be awarded with certificates later.

The Director CIIT Sahiwal applauded the hard work of management committees and their teams for their hard work to make this week a success. He also admired the full participation of the students and encouraged more students to be active in extracurricular and co-curricular activities along with their curricular routines.
